If you were to poll people on who the most popular grill manufacturer is, most would probably not answer “Napoleon.” Even though you might not have heard of them before, it turns out that they make some of the highest quality – and most purchased cookers on the market.
Napoleon has been in the game for quite some time. They started out making stoves and hearths many years ago but have since branched out into the grill market. There’s a reason why so many serious chefs are turning to Napoleon.
Not only are their grills of the highest quality, but they are often more affordable when compared to other popular brands like Weber. As such, a shift has been taking place that has seen even the most ardent Weber enthusiasts transition to Napoleon.
We certainly wouldn’t expect you to do the same without some factual details. That’s why we are presenting our findings on Napoleon grills. We had the opportunity to spend some time with some of Napoleon’s best and are excited to share our thoughts with you.
If you’re in the market for a new grill, you’re right where you need to be.
Napoleon Grill Reviews
Napoleon Prestige Pro 500
First up is Napoleon’s Prestige Pro 500. If you’re looking for a grill that will please any aspiring chef, the Prestige Pro 500 won’t disappoint. This robust unit is packed with the kind of features you want to see in a serious grill.
It comes equipped with four stainless steel main burners, two infrared side burners, and an infrared rear rotisserie burner. That equates to 80,000 BTUs over 900 square inches of cooking surface area.
Napoleon improved on just about everything found in Rogue SE, and that unit in itself was mighty impressive. The storage area below the grill is a welcome addition that provides extra shelves, a pull-out propane rack, bottle opener, hooks for utensils, and plenty of ventilation, to boot.
The build quality is equally exceptional, with little touches here and there that let you know this grill is one tough unit. A built-in light, for example, illuminates the Napoleon logo onto the ground below, just in case you or your guests forget what’s grilling up your fine food.
The control knobs are also a sight to behold. Not content with a single color, Napoleon equipped these controls to present a spectrum of colors that are sure to add character to any gathering. They really are a unique feature that injects some added spectacle into your grilling experience.
We really appreciate the dedication that clearly goes into Napoleon’s grills, and the Prestige Pro 500 is one of their finest additions to date. We had a lot of fun with the time we spent with it. It’s a great-looking unit that screams luxury.
It’s not every day that you come across a grill that provides internal lighting, but the Prestige Pro 500 gives you exactly that. It’s now easier than ever to see what you’re doing. The lighting helps you keep an eye on your food so that you grill it just right, day or night.
The stainless steel construction that graces Napoleon’s more advanced lines looks absolutely phenomenal here, making this a classy yet modern approach to grilling that is sure to complement even the nicest of homes.
The price is understandably higher than the previous entries on our list, but we’ve seen lesser grills that cost more than the Prestige Pro 500. Napoleon delivers a winner once again, with this unit being a sound investment for anyone who wants top-of-the-line grilling.
It’s also worth noting that this grill is available in both freestanding and built-in options, so it can be utilized in a custom outdoor kitchen set up as well. (Here is a link to the built-in version).

Napoleon Prestige PRO 825
In what is perhaps Napoleon’s most-prized grill, the Prestige Pro 825 is a titan of a unit that commands respect. This grill is undeniably the most impressive of their lineup, delivering an unforgettable grilling experience that is hard to put into words.
You really have to spend time with the Prestige Pro 825 to fully understand its might. You’re getting a combined total of 123,000 BTUs across eight stainless steel burners. What’s more, your grilling real estate is a whopping 825 square inches.
And when you factor in the additional cooking surfaces, you get 1,430 square inches of space to work with. To say that you can easily serve a small crowd is the understatement of the year. Two to four people can comfortably use the grill simultaneously without issue.
The variety of foods that this mammoth can serve up is simply astonishing. And that is what makes the Prestige Pro 825 such a grand slam. Its versatility and sheer bravados are a force to be reckoned with in the grilling industry.
Not only do you get the main burners, but there are also rear and bottom infrared burners, as well as side infrared burners. These all come together to provide you with a backyard kitchen that delivers a restaurant-style cooking experience.
Want to turn your grill into a smoker? Piece of cake. The Prestige Pro 825 comes with an integrated smoker tube and a dedicated burner that open the doors for you to create a whole new world of culinary masterpieces.
Both propane and natural gas versions of this grill are available, allowing you to choose the best unit for your needs. And if you opt for natural gas, you can look forward to having even more storage space (more on that in a moment).
As with previous Napoleon grills, the Prestige Pro 825 features a control panel that is loaded to the hilt with colorful LED knobs. These can be set to match just about any outdoor décor, delivering a jaw-dropping light show that will dazzle your guests as you prepare an assortment of foods.
Thanks to the power and efficiency of the Pro 825, your creations are only limited by your imagination. This beast is a serious contender that provides a wealth of opportunity to grow as a chef. Whether you’re working to become a seasoned chef or you just want the very best in your grilling experience, the Prestige Pro 825 will provide for your grilling needs and beyond.
From seafood to steaks to vegetables, we served up some of the best-tasting foods we’ve ever had from a grill. And that’s a huge statement. We’ve been fortunate enough to use a wide variety of grills in our time. But we can safely say that very few come close to delivering the quality and consistency that the Prestige Pro 825 offers.
And then there’s the build quality. Napoleon pulled out all the stops when they went to the drawing board with this one. No idea or addition was too grand, and it shows in the final product. This grill has everything you could possibly want or need to craft excellent food.
It’s a beautiful collection of ideas that combine to deliver a stunning experience through and through. The sleek stainless steel construction is truly remarkable. There’s plenty of storage space below the grilling area that provides both convenience and class.
It’s not just a bunch of shaped steel. It’s elegantly designed in a way that makes you proud to own this unit. At nearly 450 pounds, there’s no denying that this grill is a beast. Thankfully, it has rolling casters and two large wheels that make moving it around your deck or patio much easier than it has any right to be.
That said, you’ll definitely want a couple of able-bodied individuals to help you put this beast together. There’s a lot going on, so just be prepared to spend some quality time assembling your new grill. Don’t get into a rush and you’ll do just fine. Trust us, the time and effort that you put into the assembly are well worth it in the end.
As you may have already surmised, the Prestige Pro 825 is a pricey unit, to say the least. But when you step back and consider all of the benefits that come with it, you’ll have a hard time arguing that this grill is one of the very best around.

Napoleon TravelQ 285 Portable Gas Grill
If you don’t need a full-size grill and prefer something a bit more compact, Napoleon’s TravelQ 285 fits the bill nicely. This 28-pound beauty is plenty capable of providing for your grilling needs without requiring much room.
It has all the hallmarks of a quality grill but at a fraction of the size. We like this grill for a lot of reasons, not least of which is its incredible portability. You can easily haul this baby around with one hand without breaking a sweat.
And yet, as small as it is compared to traditional grills, the TravelQ still provides plenty of grilling real estate to cook up your favorite foods. And thanks to its twin burners, you will find that it’s easy to grill up a wide variety of items.
If you’re familiar with Weber’s similar Q series of portable grills, you will feel right at home grilling on the TravelQ. With that being said, we do believe that Napoleon’s version is more finely-tuned. Not only is the TravelQ more lightweight than Weber’s portable offerings, but its compactness also allows for easier transport.
A large part of this goes to Napoleon’s decision to implement a locking lid and foldable legs. Add in the handy dual-burner design and you’ve got yourself a near-perfect grilling machine that is ideal for travel. We have to hand it to Napoleon; they were able to cram a lot of niceties into the TravelQ, making it a home run for anyone grilling on the go.
One of the biggest complaints you will hear about portable grills is their limited grilling space. Napoleon nipped that issue in the bud by including the aforementioned dual-burner setup. And the TravelQ is much better for it.
This feature alone single-handedly trumps lesser portable grills, making the TravelQ one of the best go-to travel grills on the market today.
Controls are simplistic yet effective. You’re not going to find a lot of bells and whistles in this department. Two knobs provide precise temperature control, and that’s really all that you need given the application.
In total, both burners provide 12,000 BTUs across 285 square inches of grilling space. To give you some perspective, the TravelQ can handle 19 burgers at once. Not bad for a compact travel grill that weighs less than 30 pounds.
Is the TravelQ completely flawless? No, but its strengths more than make up for its one noticeable weakness. And that is its handles. They aren’t the most durable and are known to break.
Aside from this potential issue, the TravelQ is a reliable portable grill that performs remarkably well and is worthy of your investment.

Napoleon TQ285-XBL-1 Propane Gas Grill
Kicking things up a notch ever so slightly is the XBL-1. This is essentially the TravelQ with extra shelves and wheels. You can expect the same high quality as that found in the BL-1 (standard TravelQ).
Having the extra shelves is nice, and the wheels help quite a bit the portability department. So, where does this unit fall in line compared to the TravelQ? By our estimation, the BL-1 is better suited for camping trips and the like, whereas the XBL-1 is ideal for RVing and things of that nature.
If you plan on entertaining guests on the road or are taking your family on a trip, this grill is the way to go. The added shelves give you more space to work with, although that’s not to be confused with grilling surface area.
Just as in the standard TravelQ, you’re getting a total of 285 square inches to grill on and a combined 12,000 BTUs (6,000 BTUs per burner). It’s still a dual-burner setup, which goes a long way in affording you the ability to grill up a large amount of food at one time.
It should be noted that if you’re looking for a humble grill for your home, this model will serve you well. You don’t necessarily have to go all-out on a grill for your grilling needs. Some people simply don’t need a gargantuan unit to cook their food.
The XBL-1 is a commendable unit that provides more than enough grilling power for a variety of applications.

Napoleon Rogue 425 Propane Gas Grill
Moving away from the portable side of grilling and shifting our focus to more stationary units, Napoleon’s Rogue 425 is a mid-range grill that means business.
Upping the ante to a total of three burners, the Rogue is a work of art that provides a large grilling area and plenty of heat. Each burner delivers a sizzling 12,000 BTUs, for a combined total of 36,000 BTUs across all three burners. A built-in gauge helps you keep track of the grill’s temperature.
But that’s not all the heat you get with the Rogue, no sir. Built into the left shelf is a gas range burner, making it easier to whip up side dishes while your main food is cooking. And if you usually have difficulty lighting your grill, you will be pleased to know that the Rogue comes equipped with a failsafe ignition system.
Couple that with 425 square inches of surface area and you’re looking at a serious grilling companion. We love the black stainless steel construction and cast-iron cooking grids. No part of the Rogue is an afterthought, providing you with a well-made unit that is sure to stand the test of time.
Directly below the grill is a built-in cabinet that hides the propane tank. There is also a natural gas version available if you prefer, but just know that the large cutout for the propane tank remains. You’ll want to use a piece of plywood or something similar to cover this hole, else the cabinet is pretty much worthless.
So, how does the Rogue perform? We were impressed by how well food is heated. The provided heat is even in its delivery, so you never have to worry about inconsistent heating. The extra shelves and large surface area work well to ensure that you never feel cramped or short of space.
The build quality is tough and durable, and the built-in locking casters help to make moving this 125-pound grill much easier. You’ll want to have a helping hand in the assembly of the Rogue. But once it’s all put together, moving it around is a cinch.
All in all, the Rogue won’t disappoint you. If, however, you require even more grilling power, we recommend you join us for the next grill on our list.

Napoleon Rogue SE 625 RSIB Gas Grill
The Rogue SE. The next progression in Napoleon’s Rogue series of grills. With more heat, more grilling area, and more burners, the Rogue SE is bigger, badder, and better.
This grill is for the serious chef who doesn’t necessarily need the absolute best but still requires some serious grilling prowess. The Rogue SE delivers the goods in a respectable unit that comes ready to cook.
You’re getting five stainless steel burners that pump out a combined total of 88,500 BTUs. The grilling surface area provides you with 625 square inches of space. When you factor in the rear and side burners, as well, you’re looking at an impressive 980 total square inches of cooking surface.
That’s nothing to sneeze at. Unlike the standard Rogue’s gas range side burner, the SE’s uses infrared. The same is true for its rear rotisserie burner. This is cutting-edge grilling here, folks. And it’s all controlled via a slick backlit control system.
The quality is second to none, too, ensuring that you’re investing in a long-lasting grill. We love the JETFIRE ignition system, as it makes short work of firing up the Rogue SE.
During our testing, we grilled several cuts of meat, sides, you name it. On every occasion, the Rogue SE provided thorough, even heat. Our foods tasted exceptional each and every time. This is one high-quality grill that we are sure will leave even the most seasoned chef impressed.
The size and weight of the Rogue SE make this unit pretty hefty. You will definitely want a friend to help you with assembly. But as with the Rogue, the rolling casters make it easier to move around once everything is all put together.
As big as this grill is, we found that it’s pretty easy to park in tight spaces when you’re not using it. We love the design that Napoleon went with here, delivering a classy yet hearty grill that will look great in any setting.
If you’re the type who usually loathes the idea of a big hunk of metal resting on your deck or patio, the Rogue SE isn’t the gaudiest grill we’ve ever seen. It’s a bit mechanical in its construction, sure, but it’s done so in a way that works well for this type of grill.
The SE also upgrades the below-grill cabinets to two instead of one. So you’re afforded some extra storage if need be. And like the Rogue, the SE is also available in natural gas instead of propane.
For the price, you’re getting a lot to work with here, making this grill a great investment for anyone who wants to up their backyard chef game.

FAQs
Does Napoleon Offer Conversion Kits for Their Grills?
Napoleon does not make conversion kits. However, they do offer natural gas versions of some of their grills. We recommend that you thoroughly explore Napoleon’s grill options to ensure that you choose the best unit for your needs.
What Happens If Something Goes Wrong With My New Napoleon Grill and I Need It Serviced?
You’re in luck! Napoleon has a service number you can contact in the event that you need assistance and possibly servicing of your grill. You can reach them at 1-866-820-8686.
It’s important that you don’t attempt to repair any major issues yourself. Napoleon’s grills have excellent warranties (as seen above), so you don’t want to do anything that could risk voiding your warranty.
What’s the Best Way to Protect My Napoleon Grill?
The great thing about their grills is that they are rated for the outside elements. You shouldn’t have to worry too much about rain or snow damaging your Napoleon grill. These things really are made with the highest quality in mind.
With that being said, it’s always a good idea to cover your grill, regardless of the brand, when you’re not using it for an extended period of time. A good grill cover will do wonders in prolonging the life of your grill.
Here’s an interesting tidbit that might give you some added peace of mind. Napoleon is a Canadian company, so they know a thing or two about harsh elements. They specifically created their grills to withstand Canadian winters. If that doesn’t speak to the quality of their grills, we’re not sure what will.
Can I Clean the Infrared Burner, and If So, How?
Because of the powerful heat produced by the infrared burners, most food particles and loose drippings that might fall onto the surface of the burner are instantaneously incinerated. In some cases, however, you might find residue remaining on your infrared burner. If this happens, you will need to clean it.
To clean an infrared burner that is located within the grill, you must first wait until your grill is completely cooled down. Once you have established that your grill is cool, begin by using a soft brush on your infrared burner. Napoleon recommends using something as unassuming as a paintbrush to remove debris.
We found that this actually works quite well. Furthermore, you needn’t worry about damaging your burners when using a brush that’s soft, which is the goal here. Once you have thoroughly removed all signs of debris, you may replace the cooking grids that cover your infrared burner.
After your cooking grids are in place, close the lid and switch on your infrared burner to its highest setting and leave it burning for five to 10 minutes. This is done to ensure that any loose debris or particles are completely incinerated.
Cleaning Side Infrared Burners
Side infrared burners are cleaned much the same way as the internal infrared burners. Once again, you need to make sure that the burner is completely cooled before attempting any maintenance. Begin by removing the covering from the burner and use a paintbrush to clear off any remaining residue from the ceramic burner. Anything that is abrasive can permanently damage the ceramic.
Directly below the ceramic element is an area where loose debris may accumulate. After you have cleaned off the element, you may work your way down and clear out any particles below the element. Always be sure to clean the element first so that you don’t have to go back and clean any loose debris from below the element.
We also recommend that you check the grease tray that’s located underneath the side shelf. This can build up with debris quickly, so it’s a good idea to get into the habit of cleaning this often.
Once you are satisfied with your efforts, place the cooking grid back on and switch on the burner to its highest setting. Once on, allow it to burn between five and 10 minutes to ensure that any loose debris is completely incinerated. Make sure that you leave the lid open when doing this step with side burners.
When finished with the last step, make sure that you recover the side burner, as this will help prolong the life of the burner when it’s not being used. You should get into the habit of keeping your burners covered any time that you aren’t using them.
As you will learn in a moment, it pays to take extra precautions by making sure that your burners are protected at all times. This will go a long way in ensuring that they serve you well for a long time to come.
How Do I Season Cast Iron Cooking Grids?
It’s always best to use high-temperature cooking oil when seasoning your cooking grids. With your grids removed from the grill, use a soft cloth and spread the oil completely over the grid’s surface. You want to make sure that every nook and cranny is covered in oil, so be diligent in how you apply the oil.
Some people like to use butter in place of cooking oil, but we strongly advise against this practice. When you have completely covered your grids in oil, switch on your grill and allow it to preheat for about 15 minutes. Follow this up by placing your freshly-seasoned cooking grids into the grill.
Next, use the burner control knobs to switch the heat to the medium setting and make sure that the lid is closed. Leave your grill on this setting for the next 30 minutes, allowing your cooking grids to heat up. When the allotted time has passed, switch off all of the burners and ensure that the gas is off, as well.
Finally, simply let the grids cool down. It’s a good idea to repeat this process all throughout the grilling season. Just make sure that you don’t do it every day, as it is not necessary to do so.
Can I Clean the Stainless Steel Cooking Grids, and If So, How?
Stainless steel cooking grids are much more durable compared to cast iron cooking grids and are resistant to damaging corrosion. As such, they don’t require the same level of attention. With that being said, if you want to ensure that your stainless steel cooking grids are at their cleanest, it’s best to clean after each use.
You want your grill to still be hot when you clean your stainless steel grids. So use a grill brush that has stainless steel bristles to thoroughly clean your grids. Alternatively, Napoleon offers a bristle-free Super Wave Grill Brush that works wonders on stainless steel cooking grids.
If you wish to clean your grids at a time other than directly after using the grill, preheat your unit to at least 500°F for around 10 or 15 minutes. When it is completely hot, use your brush to remove any existing debris from your cooking grids.
How Can I Protect the Infrared Burners on My Grill?
Although Napoleon’s infrared burners are of high quality and designed to withstand plenty of use, you should take extra steps to ensure their safety. If the ceramic burners are accidentally damaged on your part, Napoleon’s warranty will not cover them.
Ceramic burners can be permanently damaged if they sustain impact. Dropping a hard, heavy object on your ceramic burner could result in it cracking and no longer working properly.
Furthermore, if you were to spill cold water onto a hot ceramic burner, there’s a chance that the extreme changes in temperature could cause the burner to break. With that said, never throw water into a burner in an attempt to cool it down faster.
You always want to be sure to double-check your burners before use to ensure that they aren’t wet prior to use. If you light up a ceramic burner while it is wet, the resulting steam could lead to breakage. And if the weather is wet and rainy, it’s best to avoid using your infrared burner.
Lastly, any time that you use your grill, you should always make sure that it has plenty of ventilation. If too much hot air gets trapped inside, the infrared burners won’t have the necessary oxygen to function properly.
When this happens, it can result in a back flash. Therefore, never allow more than 75% of the burner to be covered (i.e. with a large metal pan).
Are Napoleon Grills Better than Weber?
There is no straightforward answer whether Napoleon grills are better than Weber grills, and this is because a lot of this depends on personal preference. So, let’s take a look at some of the best features of both grills. We’ve also done a detailed Napoleon vs Weber brand comparison if you’re interested in learning more.
A lot of people prefer Napoleon grills because they come with a slightly lower price tag. The price difference isn’t that great, but grills are always expensive, so even a minor saving is a big win. Additionally, Napoleon grills tend to have a slightly bigger cooking area than Weber grills, which is why some people prefer this brand.
However, Weber grills also have lots of benefits. Weber grills tend to come with a lot more features, and these features can often make cooking a lot easier.
They also tend to be more durable, and are also more compact – making storing them easier. So to decide which is the best grill, you need to consider what you want out of the grill and go from there.
Is Napoleon a Good Grill Brand?
Yes, Napoleon definitely is a good grill brand. In fact, they are one of the most popular manufacturers of grills in the USA. There are lots of reasons for this, so let’s take a look at what some of these are.
One major thing that people love about Napoleon grills is their design. The design of Napoleon grills is very intricate, and it is clear that a lot of thought has gone into the process. From the wave design of the grills that prevent food from falling through, to the durable rods that sear your food, everything is excellent.
So, yes, Napoleon is a good grill brand, and it is because of this that this brand has become one of the most popular in the USA.
Are Napoleon Grills Made in China?
As a brand, Napoleon has manufacturing centers all over the world. Their biggest manufacturing site is on US soil, but they also have a manufacturing center out in China which produces Napoleon products.
Aside from checking for the ‘made in (x)’ mark on your grill, it is difficult to know exactly where your grill was produced. Napoleon has multiple manufacturing sites in North America, including one in Ontario (Canada) and one in Kentucky.
So, a lot of their products will be manufactured at these sites. However, some of their products will be produced in their overseas manufacturing site in China.
It appears that Napoleon manufactures their more expensive grills at home in the USA, and then outsources the manufacturing of their cheaper options to their China site. This is part of the reason why the company can charge more for their expensive options, as they are made on US soil.
Can I Convert My Napoleon Natural Gas Grill to Propane?
Yes, you can convert your Napoleon natural gas grill to run on propane. However, this is by no means an easy task. You might think that you can simply buy the necessary fittings and attach your grill to a gas line, but this will not work.
Liquid propane burns much hotter than natural gases, so if you simply connect your natural gas grill to propane, you will damage it. This is because the internal components are designed for a lower gas flow. So, if you want to run your natural gas grill on propane, you will need to completely convert it.
To do this, you will need to buy a conversion kit. You could do the conversion yourself, but it is very complicated and potentially dangerous. So, we would always recommend using a certified service tech to complete the conversion for you.
